At the John Rhodes Centre, the Superior Heights Steelhawks took to the ice to face the St Mary’s Knights on Wednesday, February 1st in Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action.
At 5:53 of the opening period, Clark Parker sank the lone goal of the game for the Steelhawks behind St Mary’s goaltender Jaxon Alexander to give Superior Heights a 1 – 0 lead with Dylan Murphy adding the assist on Parker’s goal. 2:32 into the middle stanza, Jack McPherson ties the game 1 – 1 for the Knights with a goal behind Superior Heights netminder Tyler Greco with Nathan Palmer and Brayden Luzzi notching the contributors on McPherson’s tying goal. Eleven seconds after McPherson’s goal, Carter Lidstone scores the go-ahead goal for St Mary’s at the 12:17 mark of the second with Kyle Scarfone and Nik Vecchio drawing the helpers. Dawson Wilson and Cole Masse register the assists on Knights third goal by Daniel Guzzo to bring St Mary’s lead to 3 – 1 at the 9:31 mark. With 2:14 remaining in the period, McPherson sends the Knights into the second intermission up 4 – 1 with Carmine Perna and Masse contributing on McPherson’s goal. With St Mary’s on a powerplay, Lidstone sinks his second of the game at 13:02 of the third to give the Knights a 5 – 1 win over the Steelhawks. Caden MacInnes and Knights goaltender Jaxon Alexander added the assists on the fifth goal for St Mary’s.
Next up in high school hockey action will be on Sunday, February 5th at the Memorial Gardens in a 7:00 p.m puck drop with the Knights facing the Korah Colts while the Steelhawks take on St Mary’s at the John Rhodes Centre on Monday, February 6th with a 3:30 p.m start.
