Heading into game three in Toronto, Ontario at the 2022 Central Region Ontario U18AAA Championships with a 0 – 2 record, the Great North Midget League champions, the Soo Greyhounds took to the ice for an afternoon matinee against the 0-2 Huron Perth Lakers representing the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario on Wednesday, April 6th.
Greyhound Gabe Zimbaro fires the opening goal from the right of Laker goaltender Kiefer MacNeil at 16:29 of the first period to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead. Noah Aboflan drew the lone assist on Zimbaro’s second goal of the championship. At 16:24 of the second period from the right of Greyhound netminder Charlie Burns, Huron Perth’s Jonathan Tenhag pull the Lakers even 1 – 1 with Ayden Hakkers contributing on Tenhag’s tying goal. From the centre of the Lakers blueline Greyhound defenseman Matthew Kallo gives the Soo a 2 – 1 lead unassisted at the 4:20 mark of the third period. With MacNeil on the Laker bench for an extra attacker, Soo forward Lincoln Moore secures a 3 – 1 win with a Greyhound empty net unassisted goal with 13.1 seconds remaining in Wednesday’s contest.
Greyhound coach Jamie Henderson told Saultsports that “the boys really responded today we’re happy to see them rewarded they worked extremely hard and were deserving of the win.”
The Greyhounds now head into game four matchup against the Nepean Raiders of the Hockey Eastern Ontario on Thursday, April 7th in a 3:00 p.m puck drop in Toronto.
