On Saturday, May 27th, the Junior Varsity Sault Sabercats opened their 2023 Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) season with a 11:00 a.m kickoff in Etobicoke, Ontario to face the Etobicoke Eagles at Centennial Stadium.

At the end of the first quarter, the Sabercats held a 6 – 0 lead before heading into half with a 14 – 0 lead. The Sault gave up two points just before the end of the third quarter before bringing home a 14 – 2 win to open the 2023 OSFL –  season in Etobicoke. Garrin Pine and Cole Rivet scored the touchdowns for the Sabercats while Pine added another two points on a conversion in the 14 – 2 win.

Sabercat coach Jim Monico told Saultsports that “we made lots of mistakes and have lots of work to do, but we are happy to come away with a win.”

Next up for the junior Sabercats will be at home with a 1:00 p.m kickoff at Rocky DiPietro Field with a contest against the visiting North Bay Bulldogs.
