On Saturday, July 22nd, the Sault Junior Sabercats hit the road to head south to face the Forest City Thunderbirds in Ontario Summer Football League quarter final.
With a goal line stance by the Sabercats with only 40 seconds remaining in the quarter final, the Sault held on to a 22 – 21 win over the Thunderbirds on the road. Sabercat Nathan Guizzetti had scored two touchdowns along with a two point conversion while Garrin Pine scoring one touchdown along with Cole Rivet adding a two point conversion for the Sabercats. Aiden Wonch had two sacks along with Ethan Fischer finishing the quarter final with one sack in the 22 – 21 win. Turner Dickinson had an interception in the win over Forest City.
“It was a gutty effort by us. We made some mistakes in the first half but played really tough in the second half, we are proud of the guys,” said Sabercat coach Jim Monico.
The Sabercats will be back in action on Saturday, July 29th in semi final action in Barrie for a OSFL matchup against the Huronia Stallions. The Sabercats fell to the Stallions on June 24th in Barrie with a 42 – 10 regular season loss.
