The Soo U15 Greyhounds are heading to the championship game after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the York Simcoe Express on Sunday, April 12th in Thunder Bay at the 2026 All-Ontario U15AAA Championships.
In what was the second semi-final matchup of the tournament, both teams delivered a tight, defensive battle following their high-scoring 5-5 draw in round robin play just a day earlier.
The opening period saw no scoring, with both teams playing structured hockey and limiting quality chances. Strong defensive efforts and steady goaltending on both sides kept the game scoreless through the first 15 minutes.
The deadlock was finally broken midway through the second period. At 5:18, Wyatt Jarrett scored what would stand as the game-winning goal, finishing a play set up by Lukas Maninos and Bryce Perrott to give the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead.
From there, the Greyhounds locked things down defensively. The third period saw no scoring, as the Soo protected their lead with disciplined play and strong positioning, shutting down any push from the Express.
In goal, Soo Greyhounds netminder Ben Clayton was perfect, stopping all 18 shots he faced to earn the shutout, while York Simcoe Express goaltender Jackson Knight made 25 saves on 26 shots in the semi-final loss.
Greyhound forward Wyatt Jarrett told Saultsports “we have just learned to never give up and always look forward never back. It means a lot to me and my team, this is what we have been working for all year.”
“Going into this final I’m just going to have to be the best player and hardest worker on the ice defensively and offensively at all times,” added Jarrett.
With the win, the Greyhounds advance to the championship final, where they will face the Vaughan Kings at 7:30 p.m. in Thunder Bay. Meanwhile, the Express will regroup and take on the Elgin Middlesex Canucks in the consolation matchup.
