SUPERIOR HEIGHTS VS ST. MARY’S
Jaiden Trudeau had 15 points and Nick Carter added 14 as the Knights held on to beat the Steelhawks 68-64 in Week #1 basketball action. St. Mary’s got off to a hot start and led 14-5 early in the contest and kept a 10+ point lead for most of the game. The Maroon and White led by 11 going into the 4th quarter but late three’s by Justin Shuttleworth and Tyler Greco made it a 2 point game with 10 seconds to go. Caden McInnis then calmly drained 2 free throws to seal the deal.
Knights Head Coach Nate Kwofie was happy with the win but wasn’t thrilled about his perimeter defense.
“A lot of first game jitters out there and that’s a good Superior Heights team. We allowed ten 3’s on defense and that’s unacceptable. It was a good way to start the season but we have a lot of learning to do once we look at the game film”
For Superior Heights, Justin Shuttleworth scored a game high 21 points. Tyler Greco also had a strong game for the Steelhawks and scored 11.
Steelhawks Head Coach Ryan Lillington was happy with how his team responded after being down early and trailing the entire game.
“I told the boys before the game that we have the talent to play with anyone, but what needed to be answered was how mentally and physically tough we are. We have a long way to go, but they answered some of those questions tonight. We wanted to put some good things on film tonight and I think we did that. The Knights are a great team from top to bottom, they’re going to be a tough out for us moving forward”

Coach Adrian Colak felt first game jitters played a big part in game one for his team.
“We were fighting our nerves and made some simple mistakes. Too many turnovers, and we couldn’t get our outside shots to fall. Give credit to the St. Mary’s defense, they slowed us down and forced a number of those turnovers. I was happy with our interior defense”
