Guizzetti and Pine Help Lead Sabercats to Home Win Over the Bulldogs

Coming off a 14 – 2 win in Etobicoke on Saturday, May 27th over the Etobicoke Eagles, the (2 – 0) Sault Junior Varsity Sabercats took to the field for an afternoon matchup in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario to host the (1 – 1) visiting North Bay Bulldogs at Rocky DiPietro Field in Ontario Summer Football League action.

Sabercat Ethan Serraro opened the scoring for the Sault with a six yard touchdown carry at 8:12 of the first quarter to give the hosts a 6 – 0 lead. Sabercats two conversion was unsuccessful to keep the game at 6 – 0 for the Sabercats. After a Sabercat fumble at the three yard line of the second quarter, North Bay’s Mathieu Desbiens rushes the ball for three yards on the next play to pull the Bulldogs even 6 – 6 at the 9:28 mark of the quarter. The Bulldogs conversion was blocked by the Sault’s defensive line to keep the game tied at 6 – 6. Nathan Guizzetti rushes a Sabercat 29 yard touchdown run to bring the Sault’s lead to 12 – 6 at 6:08 of the second quarter. Garrin Pine scores a two point conversion to give the Sabercats a 14 – 6 lead. With 2:17 remaining in the first half, Desbien catches a five yard touchdown pass from North Bay quarterback Dayne Meyer to close the gap to two bring the score to 14 – 12 after an unsuccessful Bulldog conversion.

Running for his second major of the contest with 32.1 seconds left in the half, Guizzetti sends the Sabercats into halftime up 22 – 12 with a Garrin Pine two point conversion. Cole Rivet catches a 13 yard pass from Garrin Pines to rush for 43 yards for the Sabercats fourth touchdown of the game at 8:38 of the third quarter to increase the Sault’s lead to 28 – 12 with an unsuccessful two point conversion. At 6:43 of the fourth quarter, Albert Perrault runs for a two touchdown carry to bring the Sault’s lead to 34 – 12. Nashoba Moore added two points with a Sabercat two point conversion to give the hosts a 36 – 12 lead to bring the Sault’s record to 3 – 0 with the win over North Bay.

Sabercat coach Jim Monico told Saultsports.com that “I thought we got better as the game went on. Still too many mistakes though, we’ll have to clean that up those to compete with Sudbury.”

Next up for the Sault Sabercat programs will be on Saturday, June 10th at Superior Heights in Sault Ste Marie with they host the Sudbury Spartans at 1:00 p.m for junior and 4:00 p.m for varsity action.
