Greyhounds Battle Through 2025 Silverstick Weekend in Sarnia

Over the November 28th to 30th weekend, the Soo U18 Greyhounds travelled south to Sarnia, Ontario, joining seven other AAA U18 programs from across the province to compete in the 2025 Silverstick Hockey Tournament. The three-day event delivered a demanding schedule, tight competition, and valuable experience for the Hounds as they continue to build toward the heart of the season.

The tournament opened on a high note for the Soo in a 9:30 a.m. matchup on November 28th, where the Greyhounds came out strong and controlled the play from start to finish, shutting out the Lambton Jr. Sting 5–0. The offensive rhythm continued later that afternoon in a 4:30 p.m. contest against the Huron Perth Lakers. In one of the weekend’s most action-packed games, the Greyhounds found themselves trading goals throughout the matchup, ultimately skating to a 7–7 draw.

On Saturday at noon, the Greyhounds returned to the ice for their third game, this time meeting the Mississauga Rebels. In a tighter, more defensive battle, the Soo earned their second tie of the tournament, finishing in a 2–2 deadlock. With a win needed to keep their hopes of advancing alive, the Greyhounds faced the Credit River Capitals in their final game of the preliminary round. Despite generating chances, the Soo were unable to solve the Capitals’ goaltending and were handed a shutout loss that brought their Silverstick run to a close.

The Greyhounds will now shift their focus back to GNU18HL league play. They return home to the John Rhodes Community Centre on December 6th and 7th, where they will host the Timmins Majors. Puck drops are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. on Sunday as the Soo look to build on the positives from their weekend in Sarnia.
