Finlay Escasa’s Eight-Point Weekend Leads Greyhounds Past the Visiting Majors

On Saturday, December 6th, the Soo U18 Greyhounds opened their two-game weekend series with a commanding performance against the Timmins Majors at the John Rhodes Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, earning a decisive victory in GNU18HL action. The Greyhounds showcased depth, speed, and offensive chemistry from start to finish, setting the tone for the back-to-back matchup.

The Greyhounds struck first at 14:10 of the opening period when Espen Escasa buried his 16th of the season, finishing a setup from Jacob Vincent and Nico Bossio. They doubled the lead at 17:45, this time with Bossio scoring his 12th of the year off a crisp passing sequence from Vincent and Frankie Reda.

Soo continued to push in the second period, and just 1:36 in, Escasa netted his second of the night—and 17th of the season—off assists from Bossio and Vincent. The momentum carried into the midway mark, where Vincent added his tenth of the season at 9:31, converting on feeds from Bossio and Finlay Escasa to make it 4–0.

The third period brought more offensive firepower from the Greyhounds. At 2:32, Finlay Carlson scored his fourth of the season on a setup from Nathan Dupuis. The lead stretched further at 8:16 when Finlay Escasa buried his eighth of the year off a passing play with Espen Escasa and Anthony Spironello. Aiden Giovanatti then scored his first goal of the season at 10:12, assisted by Hunter Thorkilson and Makks Demidovich. The Greyhounds capped the scoring at 12:29 on the powerplay, with Bossio netting his 13th of the campaign, supported by Finlay Escasa and Cameron Kontulainen.

With a complete team effort and contributions throughout the lineup, the Greyhounds took full control of game one. Game two of the weekend series followed on Sunday, December 8th, once again at the John Rhodes Centre against the Majors.

From the opening shift to the final buzzer, the Greyhounds controlled the pace, spread the scoring throughout the lineup, and showcased their depth in another statement performance.

The scoring opened early in the first period at 2:42 when Finlay Escasa netted his ninth of the season on a setup from Tucker Witty. The Greyhounds kept coming, extending the lead at 10:09 as Hunter Thorkilson buried his 11th of the year, assisted by Makks Demidovich and Jackson Thornton. Only 26 seconds later, Demidovich added his seventh of the season, finishing another strong shift from Thorkilson and Thornton. At 15:18, Nathan Dupuis made it 4–0 with his eighth of the campaign, assisted by Espen Escasa and Myka Venneri. Timmins responded at 16:21 with Alex Harvey’s first of the season, but the Greyhounds answered back at 18:52 when Espen Escasa scored his 18th, helped by Dupuis and Jacob Vincent.

The second period brought even more offensive firepower. At 4:21, Finlay Escasa added his tenth of the season, assisted by Venneri and Anthony Spironello. The Greyhounds converted on the powerplay at 11:10, with Espen Escasa scoring his 19th from Finlay Escasa and Cameron Kontulainen. Just 26 seconds later, Finlay Escasa struck again for his 11th of the year, set up by Spironello and Andrew Aikens. The Soo continued to roll at 14:31 when Liam Clark netted his fourth, assisted by Vincent and Nico Bossio. With the period winding down, Finlay Escasa completed another milestone at 19:21—his 12th of the season—off a feed from Espen Escasa. A quick follow-up came at 19:30 as Finlay Carlson scored his fifth, set up by Clark and Aikens, sending the Greyhounds into the third with a commanding lead.

In the final frame, the Greyhounds kept the pressure on. At 9:13, Dupuis scored his ninth of the season on the powerplay, assisted by Demidovich and Aikens. Timmins responded at 10:37 with a powerplay marker from Milo Kelly, but the Greyhounds regained control at 17:45 when Vincent scored his 11th of the season on the man advantage, assisted by Bossio and Kontulainen. To close out the game, Anthony Spironello added his fourth of the year at 19:32, set up by Dupuis.

The Majors split their goaltending duties between Rydder O’Quinn and Jaret Chypya-Fenton, while Gavin Zuccato stood strong for the Greyhounds in the win.

The Soo U18 Greyhounds now look ahead to a two-game home set against the Sudbury U16 Wolves on Saturday, December 13th at 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 14th at 10:00 a.m., both at the John Rhodes Centre.
