On Saturday, June 1st, the Soo Black Sox hit the road east to face the Shamrocks for a doubleheader in 18U baseball action.
In game one of the doubleheader in Sudbury, a double by Caleb Walker put the Black Sox on the board in the top of the second.
Lucas Carriere earned the win for Black Sox. The starting pitcher surrendered zero hits and one run over five innings, striking out eight and walking five. Lucas took the loss for Shamrocks 18U. The reliever went one inning, giving up two runs on two hits, striking out one and walking one. Chase Cerasuolo appeared in relief for the Soo.
Soo Black Sox 18U accumulated 11 hits in the game. Kolton Tremblay, Lucas DiBerardino, Carriere, Thomas Keough, and Walker each collected two hits for the Black Sox. Tremblay and Walker each drove in three runs for Black Sox. The Soo had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. Cerasuolo and Zach Allard led the team with two bases on balls each. Tremblay, DiBerardino, and Cerasuolo each stole multiple bases for the Soo. The Black Sox stole 15 bases in the game.
Riley Wyld and Chris each collected one hit for the Shamrocks. Lucas and Cole Landry each drove in one run for Sudbury.
Game Two (Lucas Carriere Drives In 4 To Lead the Black Sox Past the Shamrocks)
Lucas Carriere drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Black Sox past the Shamrocks 18-10 on Saturday. Carriere singled in the second scoring two, singled in the fifth scoring one, and walked in the sixth scoring one.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as the Black Sox collected 11 hits and Shamrocks three in the high-scoring affair.
Sudbury got on the board in the top of the first inning after Max singled, Teo Landry walked, and Cole grounded out, each scoring one run.
The Black Sox flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 8-3 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a walk by Zach Allard that drove in two.
The Shamrocks took the lead in the top of the third inning after Landry singled, Jeremy walked, Keegan walked, Cowen walked, the Black Sox committed an error, and Thomas walked, each scoring one run.
The Soo flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on two hits to take a 13-9 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Kolton Tremblay that drove in two.
Tye Turco earned the win for the Soo. The reliever surrendered zero hits and two runs (zero earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking three. Chris took the loss for the Shamrocks. They went four innings, giving up nine runs (six earned) on six hits, striking out seven and walking eight. Tremblay led things off on the mound for the Soo Black Sox. They gave up three hits and eight runs over two and one-third innings, striking out five and walking nine. Jeremy led things off on the mound for Sudbury. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and seven runs (six earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking four.
The Black Sox amassed 11 hits in the game. Caleb Walker collected two hits for the Soo in three at bats. The Soo had patience at the plate, piling up 15 walks for the game. Allard and Turco led the team with three walks each. Carriere, Walker, and Allard each stole multiple bases for the Black Sox. The Soo ran wild on the base paths, accumulating nine stolen bases for the game.
Landry and Keegan each drove in two runs for Sudbury. Max went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Shamrocks in hits. Sudbury had a strong eye at the plate, amassing 12 walks for the game. Chris and Levi led the team with two walks each. Sudbury turned one double play in the game.
