In the fiercely competitive landscape of “AAA” hockey in Northern Ontario, goaltenders often emerge as the unsung heroes, anchoring their teams’ defenses and playing a pivotal role in determining the outcome of games. However, in the current season, it’s two local Sault Ste Marie, Ontario goaltenders who are not just standing out but dominating at the very top of the Great North U18 Hockey League goaltending league standings.
Among these standout netminders is Soo U18 Greyhound AJ Borrelli and Nick Marson as well as Sudbury U18 Wolves Carter Nadon.
With a combination of agility, precision, and an uncanny ability to anticipate plays, seventeen year old Borrelli has been a stalwart presence between the pipes for Greyhounds with accumulating a goals against average of 2.264 in 1113 minutes played and earning four shutouts as of Sunday, February 25th. 6’0” and 175 lbs Borrelli has only allowed 42 goals to date.
Another local goaltender making waves is Carter Nadon, representing the U18 Wolves. Known for their lightning-fast reflexes and calm demeanor under pressure, Nadon has been a force to be reckoned with for the Wolves. Their remarkable saves and clutch performances have propelled the team to numerous triumphs, solidifying their standing at the summit of the league standings.
Not to be outdone, Soo U18 Greyhound netminder 15 year old Nick Marson from Sault Ste Marie has also been a standout performer this season. With a combination of athleticism and mental toughness, Marsons has performed well between the pipes for the Greyhound defense in 697 minutes played with a 3.099 goals against average and allowed 36 goals for the U18 Greyhounds.
These three local goaltenders not only exemplify excellence on the ice but also embody the spirit and pride of their respective communities.
