The Greater Sudbury Cubs continued their dominant run in the Copeland McNamara Cup Championship on Tuesday night, blanking the Timmins Rock 3–0 in game three at McIntyre Arena in Timmins. With the victory, the Cubs now hold a commanding 3–0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Coming into the contest, Sudbury had already outscored Timmins 13–6 through the first two games on home ice, and they carried that momentum into a tightly contested Game 3 that saw no scoring through the opening 20 minutes.
The deadlock was finally broken late in the second period, and it came while the Cubs were down a man. At 18:10, Kaedyn Long capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity, finding himself all alone in front and burying his fifth goal of the championship series. Daks Klinkhammer picked up the lone assist on the play, giving Sudbury a 1–0 edge heading into the third.
The Cubs extended their lead early in the final frame. Just 3:22 in, Owen King struck for his seventh goal of the series, finishing a setup from Tyson Rismond to make it 2–0.
As the Rock pushed to get back into the game late, pulling their goaltender for a six-on-four advantage, it was once again Sudbury that found the back of the net. With 2:06 remaining, Daks Klinkhammer sealed the victory with a shorthanded empty-net goal—his 10th of the series—firing it in unassisted to complete the 3–0 final.
Between the pipes, Iain Wintle was perfect for Sudbury, turning aside all 27 shots he faced to earn his first shutout of the 2026 playoffs. At the other end, Frédéric Cousineau was solid in defeat for Timmins, stopping 20 of 22 shots.
Game four of the Copeland McNamara Cup Championship is set for Wednesday, April 22nd at McIntyre Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Cubs will look to complete the sweep, while the Rock aim to extend their season and claw their way back into the series.
