Coming off their first win in over a decade, the White Pines Wolverines looked to carry momentum into Thursday, September 25th, when they met the first-place Korah Colts in Sault Ste. Marie High School Senior Football action at Superior Heights Field.

Korah wasted little time taking control. At 6:36 of the first quarter, AJ Coccimiglio opened the scoring on a rushing touchdown, then added the convert for a 7-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Coccimiglio broke free on an 11-yard carry to make it 14-0 after another successful kick. The Colts extended their dominance when quarterback Brett Koski connected with Drew Albury on a 20-yard strike into the Wolverines’ end zone at 2:04, pushing the lead to 20-0.

White Pines was forced to concede a safety with just over a minute left in the opening frame, and on the very next drive, Payton Melchiorre electrified the Colts’ sideline by dodging a pair of tackles and sprinting 51 yards to the end zone. With Coccimiglio’s fifth straight point-after, Korah stormed into the second quarter ahead 29-0.

The Colts continued to pour on the offense, as Koski found Grayson Avery on a four-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter, stretching the lead further. White Pines finally answered when quarterback Garrin Pine aired out an 18-yard pass to Arthur Vincent, who followed with a four-yard touchdown carry at 4:17. Ethan McCorkell’s extra point gave the Wolverines their lone score of the night.

In the third, Coccimiglio capped off his strong performance with a 43-yard field goal, sealing a 39-7 victory for Korah.

With the win, the Colts remain undefeated and in first place heading into their next matchup against the St. Mary’s Knights. Meanwhile, White Pines will look to regroup when they face the Superior Heights Steelhawks. Both games are scheduled for Superior Heights Field with 7:30 p.m. kickoffs and will be broadcast live on SaultSports TV.
