The Ontario Power 5 Football League (OP5FL) is proud to announce its first-ever expansion franchise: the Burlington Longhorns. This exciting new team, owned and operated by Phil “Coach Coz” Constantini and Darlene Jagusic, will serve the Hamilton and Halton regions. The Longhorns will participate in the league’s second inaugural season, showcasing top-tier men’s semi-pro tackle football.
Constantini and Jagusic, former owners of the successful Steel City Patriots NFC club, bring over 12 years of experience in running competitive football programs at the men’s level. After a brief hiatus supporting other football clubs, they are thrilled to return to the sport with their new organization, the Hamilton-Halton Longhorns Football Club, officially operating as the Burlington Longhorns.
“We are incredibly excited to launch the Burlington Longhorns and join the Ontario Power 5 Football League,” said Phil Constantini. “Our vision is to create a dynamic and competitive football team that will not only excel on the field but also serve as a cornerstone of the community. Darlene and I are committed to building a first-rate football program that will make the Hamilton and Halton regions proud.”
The Longhorns have already begun developing an experienced team executive that includes former Longhorn players, executives from the Steel City Patriots, Niagara region, Toronto, and former Hamilton Tiger-Cats pro players. Home games will be played in Burlington at a venue yet to be named but fittingly reflecting the Longhorns’ identity. Announcements regarding the coaching staff, possible entry into a winter indoor league, and upcoming winter football camps are expected in the coming months.
The Ontario Power 5 Football League is Ontario’s premier men’s semi-pro tackle football league, known for its competitive play and commitment to the sport’s growth. The addition of the Burlington Longhorns represents a significant expansion of the league and further enhances its reputation as the leading platform for high-level football in the province.
“The OP5FL is thrilled to welcome the Burlington Longhorns as our first expansion franchise,” said Gordon Goddard Communications Director for the league. “Phil and Darlene have a proven track record of running successful football programs, and we are confident that the Longhorns will bring excitement and passion to the league and their local communities. This is a great moment for football in Ontario.”
