Winnipeg’s Brooke Gruhn to Join Algoma OUA Thunderbird Program

Algoma Women’s OUA Thunderbirds announced Wednesday, July 20th that Brooke Gruhn to their Women’s Basketball Program! Gruhn is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has accomplished a lot in her 12-year basketball career, including being a Manitoba AAAA graduating all-star and the co-captain of the Varsity team. She also received the Kinsmen Athletic Award at Vincent Massey. 

Playing for Vincent Massey Collegiate, Gruhn is a Small Forward standing at 5’8″, and will become a great asset to the team! Beyond the sport of basketball, she frequently involves herself in soccer and ultimate. She will be studying Finance and Economics at Algoma come the Fall. 

“I chose Algoma U because the coaches and teammates at Algoma have created an environment that I am excited to be a part of and Algoma allows me to pursue my academic and athletic goals. When I visited the school it just felt like the perfect fit for me,” states Gruhn.

Head Coach Ryan Vetrie stated, “We are very excited to have Brooke join our program. She brings some length at the wing position and defensively has a high basketball IQ. We are looking for players who want to be in the gym and improve themselves and Brooke embodies such a player. She had a great high school and club career and we know she is ready to put in the work at the next level.”

Assistant Coach Carrera Lamoureux, of DMCI also adds, “We are so excited for Brooke to begin her USports Career at Algoma University. Both Wyatt and I have watched her develop rapidly these past few months. We can only imagine how much she’ll continue to improve at Algoma under coach Vetrie. Her hard work, tenacity, and consistency will be well-received at AU.”
