Where Has the Fun Gone! The Craziest Part of Youth Sports Today?

The craziest part of youth sports today?

Every parent seems convinced their child is destined for “the SHOW.”

But here’s the reality nobody likes to admit:

  • I never made an all-star team.
  • I never played elite sports.
  • I didn’t play with the so-called “top” players.

At ten years old, nothing I did was preparing me for the pros — because nothing a ten-year-old does can prepare them for that level.

The NHL, MLB, NFL, CFL, NLL — none of those dreams become real when you’re a kid.

They become real at 15… 17… 19… 22… 25… when you’re mentally tougher, physically stronger, disciplined, and resilient enough to walk through the fire.

Parents believe that more playing time, more travel teams, more money, and more pressure will magically create an elite athlete.

But real professional athletes are built on:

  • A genuine love for the sport
  • Competing daily
  • Work ethic that comes from within, not from parents
  • Bouncing back from adversity
  • Late growth, late development
  • Strong character

Not the spring team they joined at age ten.

Youth sports should be about fun, growth, and giving kids the space to fall in love with the game — because passion is the only fuel powerful enough to carry someone all the way to the SHOW.

Parents: enjoy the journey. Let your kids enjoy it too.

If they truly want it, they’ll prove it — and the game will take them as far as their own drive can push them.
