Warriors Hold Off the Colts in Senior High School Football Action

In Sault Ste Marie, Ontario on Saturday, September 24th, the number one ranked high school in the nation, the Huron Heights Warriors of Newmarket took to the field to face the fourteenth ranked Korah Colts in senior high school action at Superior Heights field in front of a packed crowd.

Just 2:02 into the opening quarter, Ty Koski finds the uprights on a 22 yard field goal to give the Colts a 3 – 0 lead. At 2:59 of the second quarter, Warrior quarterback Ethan Schwarz finds Alex Figen for a 21 pass to give Huron Heights a 6 – 3 lead, Hayden Doris adds the extra point for the Warriors convert to bring the lead to 7 – 3. Four yards from the Korah end zone Figen’s carries the ball for his second major of the contest to increase the lead to 14 – 3 after a Doris’ successful convert. With 3:16 left in the third quarter, Kaylob Thibodeau closes the gap to five with a six yard touchdown rush. Koski kicked the convert for the extra point to bring the Colts within four. Huron Heights gives up two points in the their to have the Colts with two with 1:41 remaining in the game. With a 25 yard field goal attempt blocked by the Warriors with 24.9 seconds left and conceding one more point to Korah, the number one ranked team in Canada headed home with a 14 – 13 win over the Colts.

Warrior coach Heath Weir told Saultsports that “It was an amazing game. Korah did what they do and we do what we do. It was a heavyweight championship fight. With to big teams in there throwing bombs. Our defense and special teams won the game. Offensively, our QB Ethan Schwarz and the receivers were the difference. Korah is the most physical team we have ever faced.”

Huron Heights will be back in Sault Ste Marie on October 1st to face the St Mary’s Knights while the Colts take on the Superior Heights Steelhawks on Friday, September 30th. All games will be broadcasted on Saultsports TV.
