On Wednesday, April 26th, Soo U18 Greyhound forward Jacob Smith was selected 20th overall in the 2023 Ontario Hockey League U18 Draft first round by the Ottawa 67’s.

The 5’10″ and 160 lbs forward from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario played 24 regular-season games with the Soo U18 Greyhounds of the Great North U18 Hockey League where the forward scored 11 goals and contributed on 17 during the 2022 – 2023 GNU18HL regular season. In five postseason games with his hometown Greyhounds, Smith registered two assists. The Sault Ste Marie forward also made six junior ‘A’ appearance in a Soo Thunderbirds jersey during the regular season where, Jacob had one assist.

Jacob Smith told Saultsports that “it is an honour to be drafted by the 67’s, I’ve got a lot of family in Ottawa and grew up there so it’s special for them and I. I think it’s important I bring a lot of compete and energy to camp and try and be a good teammate and I believe good things will happen.”
