Over the January 18th to 21st weekend, the Great North U18 Hockey League’s Soo U18 Greyhounds hit the road for the second time in 2024 with participating in the 2024 Steve Richey Tournament of Champions in Peterborough, Ontario. The Soo Greyhounds were among thirty five U18 teams from across the province of Ontario with an up hill battle from the start with some of the top teams in Ontario that included the Peterborough U18 Petes (13th), Niagara U18 North Stars (35th), London Jr Knights (24th), and Ajax-Pickering Raiders (1st).
Soo Greyhounds bench boss Denny Lambert told Saultsports that “It was definitely a tough weekend, but we can learn things from this tournament as we saw how good these teams are so we could take this experience and learn how we need to play through practises and games in the great North league. It was a great experience for the guys on the team and it was also a great experience for the coaches to see the level of play of these top teams in the U18.”
Next up for the Soo Greyhounds will be on Saturday, January 26th and Sunday, January 27th when they play host to the Timmins Majors on January 26th at 2:00 p.m followed by the Sudbury U16 Wolves on January 27th with a 2:00 p.m puck drop. Both games will take place at the John Rhodes Centre in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
