Tough Losses for Algoma Thunderbirds Against York Lions in OUA Action

Over the weekend, the Thunderbirds traveled down to York, Ontario for back to back action. York University hosted the first set of games on Saturday, October 1st. The women kicked things off at 1pm. The keeper for this game was third year Aysia Solomon. She undeniably displayed an excellent performance, saving a total of 16 shots from York. The women’s team held their own for a bit, but unfortunately lost 6-0.

York men’s team is ranked #1 in USports at the time of writing. Needless to say, we were expecting the men to have to fight hard during this game. Alexander Burt, goalkeeper for this game, also had some great saves during the game. One thing to note was the improvements in the playing dynamic from the team during the first part of the second half.. With that said, our men’s team lost the game 6-0.

In game two action, Makayla Townes saved a total of 9 shots. The halves seemed to be played fairly evenly, with York scoring three in the first and three in the second. Final score of the game was 6-0 York.

The boys had a tough game. One of the major highlights, however, was seeing the first goal of the season! Thierry Nsega scored in the 57th minute. Joshua Bondoc was our goalkeeper this game, and was able to make 4 saves. The final score of the game was 12-1 for York. Despite a major loss, the game certainly kept us at the edge of our seats.

Next game day action for the Thunderbirds will be versus McMaster in back to back home games. This is the weekend in which we will be highlighting our seniors, and we encourage everyone to come out and see them play their last games on home turf!
