The Thunderbirds took to Ottawa this past weekend to face both the UOttawa GeeGees and the Carleton Ravens. After an overly extended bus ride on Thursday, the teams warmed up to face the GeeGees on Friday, December 2nd. In their first game, the women’s team faced a tough first quarter. Although things were looking a little better in the third, the women could not come back. The final score of the game was 82-24, with Bethany Belaktsis scoring 8 points for the team.
The men’s team came to play with a slight change in the squad, as Patrick-Oliver Mpoyi and Olajuwon Oyegoke hit the court for the first time this season. Patrick-Oliver Mpoyi was the top scorer of the game with 14 points. The team faced a tough loss, with Ottawa being the first team to score triple digits over the Thunderbirds. The final score was 103-59.
In Sunday, December 4th game day action, the Thunderbirds went up against the Ravens. With their squad looking a little better, the women’s team was ready to give it their all. The game ended with a final score of 88-41 for Carleton. Top scorer of the game was Bethany Belakstis with 16 points.
The men’s team had a great first quarter, with the lead flipping between the two teams throughout. Carelton was able to pull ahead, with the Thunderbirds making a comeback in the fourth quarter. Final score of the game was 99-71 for the Ravens. Top scorer of the game was Taleh Wade with 21 points.
