Thunderbirds Fall to the Warriors in OUA Women and Men’s Action on the Road

Over the Friday, January 27th and Saturday, January 28th weekend, the Thunderbirds made their way to Waterloo to face the Waterloo Warriors. The women’s game started off with the Warriors taking a 23 point lead over the Thunderbirds. Although the other three quarters were fairly close, the Thunderbirds couldn’t make up the difference. Final score was 65-37 for Waterloo. Top scorer of the game was Kaila Fong with 10 points.

The men had a strong first half of the game, ending the second quarter with a 16 point lead over Waterloo. The Warriors managed to make a comeback in the second half. With Patrick-Oliver Mpoyi ending the game with a buzzer beater in the last 7 seconds of the game, the Warriors won with a score of 80-74. Top scorer of the game was Johan German with 20 points.

On Saturday, the women’s team scored a solid 20 points in the last quarter, but it wasn’t enough to make up the game. The final score was 86-49 for Waterloo. Top scorer of the game was Karly Fracalanza with 10 points, with Bethany Belaktsis following up with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

The men’s team had a tough first quarter, with Waterloo leading by 16 points. Although the teams scored fairly close in the other three quarters, it wasn’t enough to make up the difference from the first quarter. The final score was 86-64 for Waterloo. Top scorer of the game was Johan Germain with 20 points once again.

Our upcoming games against Ontario Tech will be a part of our Black History Month initiative as well as the OUA Anti-Racism Awareness campaign. The proceeds & donations from the game will go towards the AU ACCANO Scholarship.
