Thunderbirds Fall to Gryphons in OUA Road Action

On Saturday, November 1st, the Algoma University Thunderbirds men’s and women’s basketball teams were on the road to face the Guelph Gryphons in OUA regular season play.

In women’s action, Sault Ste. Marie’s Sadie Grawbarger led the Thunderbirds with 13 points and six rebounds in 32 minutes of play, but Algoma fell 71–41 to the host Gryphons. Veteran Riya Donnelly added eight points and two rebounds in 25 minutes, while Elia Galdos chipped in four points and two rebounds over 23 minutes to round out Algoma’s top performers. For Guelph, Hannah Bourdon and Samantha Milne each scored ten points, with Bourdon adding five rebounds and Milne six. Christina Morra contributed nine points and an impressive eleven rebounds in 21 minutes of action for the Gryphons.

On the men’s side, Oliver Krisoffersen paced the Thunderbirds with a strong 23-point performance, collecting three rebounds in 28 minutes despite Algoma’s 87–56 loss. Kal Alejo added ten points and a rebound in 30 minutes, while Elijah Quissa scored six points and grabbed one rebound in limited action. The Gryphons were led by Jack Tunstill, who posted 17 points and five rebounds in 20 minutes. Amare Hamilton tallied ten points and four rebounds, and Dylan Koffi scored 12 points in 17 minutes to help Guelph secure the win.

Both Thunderbirds squads will continue their road schedule next weekend, traveling to face the Western Mustangs on Saturday, November 8th, before meeting the Windsor Lancers on Sunday, November 9th, in back-to-back OUA contests.
