Thunderbird Women Earn First Win of 2024 OUA Season

The Algoma Thunderbird women’s basketball program celebrated their first win of the season on home court on Saturday, November 9th.

Women’s Game 1 Recap
The women had a strong fourth quarter, but with the lead Queen’s already set, it wasn’t enough to make up the difference. Top scorer of the game was Sadie Grawbarger with 9 points. Nadia Singh made 7 rebounds.

The men held their ground for the 1st, 2nd, and 4th quarters, but with Queen’s taking a huge lead in the 3rd, the team fell short. Despite the loss, Khamani Steckler displayed a stellar performance, leading the Thunderbirds with 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Women’s Game 2 Recap
In a very anticipated game, the women started the game strong leading by 7 points in the first quarter. Taking a 10 point lead in the fourth, the women celebrated their first win of the season! Kaila Fong had a stellar game, scoring 27 points for the Thunderbirds. Nadia Singh had an incredible 17 rebounds.

Men’s Game 2 Recap
The men faced a tough opponent in Ontario Tech, with the team being ranked nationally at the time of writing. Despite a good fourth quarter performance from AU, OT had led the game in the first three quarters. Top scorer of the game was Adong Dut with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
