Coming off with a win to open the 2023 – 2024 Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League season with a 10 – 1 win over the Superior Heights Steelhawks on Friday, November 10th, the (1-0) Korah Colts took to the ice at the John Rhodes Centre on Sunday, November 12th to face the (0-2) Steelhawks in high school action.
41 seconds into Sunday’s contest, Superior Heights Jacob Briffett finds the back of Korah netminder Payton Melchoirre to give the Steelhawks a 1 – 0 lead. Owen Case had the lone assist on Briffett’s goal to give Superior Heights a 1 – 0 lead. Cole Arruda evens the game 1 – 1 for the Colts with a goal behind Steelhawk goaltender Tyler Greco at the 7:38 mark of the first with Kaylob Thibodeau notching the helper on Arruda’s tying goal. Scoring an unassisted goal at 6:13, Owen Case gives Superior Heights a 2 – 1 lead. Koen Manchulenko nets the Colts second goal of the game one minute after the Steelhawks took the lead to bring the game to 2 – 2 for Korah. Bodie Belair added the contributor on Manchulenko’s goal. Mason Battacchio fires the Colts third to give Korah a 3 – 2 lead at the 3:29 mark of the first with Thibodeau and Hayden Joseph drawing the assists on the Colts go-ahead goal. 59 seconds into the second, Case scores his second of the game for the Steelhawks to pull Superior Heights even 3 – 3 with Nathan Whitely and Briffett registering the helpers. Tyler Lang gave the Colts a 4 – 3 lead with a Korah unassisted goal behind Steelhawk goaltender Tyler Greco at 13:40. Manchulenko found the back of the Steelhawks net for his second of the contest at 3:45 of the second to bring Korah’s lead to 5 – 3. Preston Miller and Owen Avery contributed on Manchulenko’s goal. At 13:25 of the third, Ashton Sawchyn and Miller setup Colton Greene’s goal to increase the Colts lead to 6 – 3. Brady Bayles cements Korah’s 7 – 3 win at 6:59 of the third with Thibodeau and Greene adding the assists on the Colts seventh of the game.
Next up in Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action will be on November 15th with the (0-3) Steelhawks facing the (2-0) Colts at 3:30 p.m at the Northern Community Centre.
