At the John Rhodes Centre on Sunday, November 16th, the Superior Heights Steelhawks continued their undefeated run in the Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League, earning a decisive 5–1 victory over the White Pines Wolverines in the first game of the evening. Entering the matchup sitting second in the standings at 3–0, the Steelhawks wasted no time showcasing why they remain one of the league’s toughest teams to face.
Superior Heights opened the scoring just over nine minutes into the first period when Oliver Austin buried his sixth goal of the season, finishing a setup from Drew Hankinson. Moments later, the Steelhawks struck again—this time off the stick of William Zuke, who converted a pass from Colton McLean to register his first goal of the year. With a 2–0 lead after twenty minutes, Superior Heights established full control of the game’s pace and possession.
The Steelhawks carried their momentum into the middle frame, continuing to pressure the Wolverines with sustained offensive-zone time. At 13:40, Carter Neabel pushed the lead to 3–0 with his first of the season, assisted by Cameron Knox and Alex Hoffe. Just five minutes later, McLean added to the Wolverines’ troubles, scoring his second of the campaign thanks to strong setup work from Hankinson and Ty Cond. Through two periods, Superior Heights’ depth and quick puck movement consistently kept White Pines on their heels.
In the third period, the Steelhawks didn’t let up. At 10:42, Hoffe joined the scoring parade, tapping in his first goal of the year after a clean feed from Thomas Keough to make it 5–0. White Pines finally found the back of the net at 7:58, when Easton Foster capitalized on a turnover and scored unassisted to break the Steelhawks’ run. Despite the late surge, the Wolverines were unable to close the gap as Superior Heights held firm defensively to secure the win.
With the victory, the Steelhawks improve to a flawless 4–0, continuing to apply pressure at the top of the league standings. The Wolverines, now 1–4, will look to regroup quickly as they return to action on Monday, November 17th against the CASS Huskies at the John Rhodes Centre. Superior Heights will also face the Huskies next, with their matchup set for Wednesday, November 19th at 3:30 p.m. Both teams will aim to build momentum as the season moves deeper into November.
