Steelers Wrangled the Longhorns at Home in 2022 NFC Quarter Final

Playing in their first post season game since 2014, the Sault Steelers hit Rocky DiPietro Field on Saturday, August 6th to host the visiting Oakville Longhorns in a Northern Football Conference quarter final in Sault Ste Marie.

At 9:33 of the opening quarter, Steeler Jesse Hill found the Longhorn uprights with a 20 yard field goal to give the Sault a 3 – 0 lead. With Taylor Holub in Oakville’s endzone, Steeler quarterback Ryan Yost throws a 14 yard touchdown pass to Holub at 3:19 to bring the hosts lead to 9 – 0. Hill kicks a convert to give the Sault a 10 – 0 lead. With 0:00 on the clock at the end of the first, Brock Hoover runs the ball for a Steeler 17 yard touchdown to send the Sault into the second quarter up 16 – 0. Steeler Chris Solomon Jr recovers a Longhorn fumble at the Oakville 20 yard line to run the ball for a 20 yard Sault major to increase the lead to 23 – 0 after Hill’s second successful convert at 12:48 of the second quarter. Running the ball for a Sault touchdown on a 34 yard carry, Alonzo Clarke adds to the Steelers lead at 9:56. With Hill’s third convert of the game, the Steelers lead 30 – 0.

With 2:18 remaining in the half, Tristan Marshall carries the ball for a Steeler 13 yard touchdown to give the Sault a 36 – 0 lead. Yost and Holub connect for Holub second major of the contest at 0:00 of the third with a three yard pass to bring the lead to 43 – 0 with Hill’s convert. Ryan Barnes runs for a four yard carry at 9:39 of the final quarter for the Steelers final touchdown of the game, Hill added the extra point on the convert to give the blue and gold a 50 – 0 lead. With 3:10 left in the NFC quarter final in Sault Ste Marie, the Steelers win 52 – 0 with a two point safety on August 6th and advancing to a NFC semi final.

The Steelers will now hit the road to either meet the Sarnia Imperials or Tri City Outlaws in a NFC semi-final on August 13th.
