On Wednesday, May 31st in a midweek doubleheader in Rudyard, Michigan, the Soo U18 Black Sox hit the diamond to face the Rudyard Bulldogs.
U18 Soo Black Sox fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 5-0 loss to Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs on Wednesday. Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs took the lead on a wild pitch in the first inning.
Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs got things moving in the first inning. Owen Daynard’s wild pitch allowed two runs to score for Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs.
A single by Caleb Walker in the first inning was a positive for U18 Soo Black Sox.
Aiden Bickel led the Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs to victory on the hill. The righty surrendered zero runs on two hits over five innings, striking out three. Eli Sprague threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Daynard took the loss for U18 Soo Black Sox. The pitcher went four innings, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out six and walking one.
Matthew Forsey went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead U18 Soo Black Sox in hits. U18 Soo Black Sox didn’t commit a single error in the field. Lucas DiBerardino had the most chances in the field with six.
Bickel led Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs with two hits in two at bats.
U18 Soo Black Sox ran off with the lead late in the game in a 10-7 victory over Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs on Wednesday. The game was tied at seven with U18 Soo Black Sox batting in the top of the sixth when Matthew Forsey singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
U18 Soo Black Sox earned the victory despite allowing Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs to score five runs in the second inning. Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs’s big inning was driven by a triple by Cameron Peterson, a single by Landen Mayer, and an error on a ball put in play by Tanner Baker.
Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs took an early lead in the first inning. Baker singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
U18 Soo Black Sox knotted the game up at seven in the top of the third inning. Carmine Perna drove in one when Perna singled.
U18 Soo Black Sox notched six runs in the third inning. Michael Starzomski, Keyton Mousseau, Caleb Walker, Connor Bruzas, and Perna all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Forsey pitched U18 Soo Black Sox to victory. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out three and walking one.
Peterson led things off on the mound for Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs. The pitcher surrendered ten runs on 14 hits over six innings, striking out two.
Nolan Toni started the game for U18 Soo Black Sox. The righthander went two innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, striking out one and walking one
U18 Soo Black Sox totaled 14 hits in the game. Starzomski, Walker, Carter Young, Forsey, and Perna each had multiple hits for U18 Soo Black Sox. Perna, Forsey, Young, Walker, and Starzomski each collected two hits to lead U18 Soo Black Sox.
Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs saw the ball well today, racking up eight hits in the game. Peterson and Aiden Bickel each managed multiple hits for Rudyard Varsity Bulldogs.
Next up for the U18 Black Sox will be on the June 9 – 11 weekend at home in Sault Ste Marie when they play host to the 2023 Soo Black Sox Invitational with the Thunder Bay Lakers, Marquette Blues, Petoskey Royals, and EUP Woodducks from Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.
