Over the November 18th and 19th weekend, the Soo U14 AA Greyhounds hosted the Sudbury Nickel Sons for three games in Nickel District Minor Hockey League (NDMHL) action.
Next Nickel District Minor Hockey League action for the Soo U14 AA Greyhounds will be over the November 25th and 26th weekend when they hit the road for three games in Sudbury against the Sudbury Timberwolves. Game times will be 3:00 p.m and 6:00 p.m on Saturday followed by game three of the week on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m puck drop.
Soo U14 AA Greyhound coach Lucas Provenzano told Saultsports that “we were really looking forward to this three game set with Nickel City because they went undefeated in this league last year and are a top ten ranked team so it gives us an idea of where we stand provincially. The first game was tight and we ended up winning 3-1.”
“Game two we really struggled for two periods and we spotted them five to start the game. We were adjusting to a couple suspensions and got into penalty trouble early, four of their goals bounced off multiple players and ended up in our net – by the third we found our rhythm and we came back and tied the game 5-5 and then lost 7-6 on an empty netter. It wasn’t our best showing but the positive in that is that we didn’t get down on the bench and battled back from a huge deficit,” added Provenzano.
Provenzano said that “in game three we had all of our players back and we came out flying. They have a really aggressive forecheck and I thought we made really good adjustments. We were able to score three right away and that kind of set the tempo for the remainder of the game. It was nice to cap the weekend off with a 7-1 win.”
Final thoughts on the weekend, coach Provenzano added that “we had strong goaltending all weekend from Noah Jyla and Levi inch. Our defensemen Ashton Neufeld, Mateo Muto, Preston Gioia, Gavin Greenwood, Nicholas Patience and Martino Coccimiglio were really strong at both ends of the rink. We had great offensive contributions from forwards Eli Chapman, Reagan Dezordo, Adam Provenzano, David Francella, Bailey Fitzpatrick and Nolan Lesperance. The line of Gavin Ciotti, Carter Gioia and Milan Glavota worked extremely hard all weekend and is starting to click offensively. We have Sudbury next weekend and then our next big test is November 30th weekend at Silver Sticks where we will face Scarborough who is ranked third in the first game of the tourney.”
All in all great weekend but we still have a lot of work to do to prepare for what’s ahead.
