Soo U13 City United Earn Home Shutout Win Over Sudbury Impact at Tom Tipton

After a 2-0 win in a downpour on August 8 at Tom Tipton Field in Sault Ste Marie over the Sudbury Impact, the Soo U13 City United returned to soccer action at home on August 21 in a 3:00 p.m afternoon matinee to host the visiting Sudbury Impact at Tom Tipton Field.

Under hot weather conditions in Sault Ste Marie, Soo City United U13 girls extended their winning streak to four games on Saturday with a 1-0 victory versus the U14 Sudbury Impact. It took a second half goal from striker Celina Pinelli to lift the young Soo team past the visiting Sudbury team.

“The Soo City team had a flurry of chances in the first half, but credit the Sudbury Impact defense and goaltender for keeping the game tied at half. Despite the heat the entire team put in a solid effort. The girls played another good defensive game and we capitalized with a late goal for the victory,” said Soo City assistant coach John Iachetta. ”

“Malaya Schikofsky played tremendously well in net earning the shutout today. It was in fact Schikofsky who made a big save for the Soo squad and followed up with a booming kick that assisted on the Pinelli game winner,” added Iachetta.

The Soo U13 City United will hit the road with an August 28 matchup against the Impact for a 3:00 p.m start in Sudbury.
