Soo Thunderbird Warner Young to Join St Mary’s University NCAA DIII Cardinals

After rounding out his final junior ‘A’ hockey season in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario with the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Soo Thunderbirds, Newberry, Michigan 21 year old defenseman Warner Young has committed to St. Mary’s University of Minnesota NCAA DIII Cardinals for the 2021 – 2022 season.
The 6’2″ and 185 lbs blueliner played 70 regular season games for the NOJHL Thunderbirds from 2019 – 2021 in Sault Ste Marie with the Newberry, Michigan native scored eight goals and had 35 assists in the blue and orange. Young tallied a total of 42 minutes in 70 regular season games with the Thunderbirds in his two seasons with the Sault Ste Marie, Ontario based NOJHL junior ‘A’ franchise. In 2019 – 2020 season as a rookie with the Thunderbirds, Warner was named Rookie Thunderbirds of Year.  With 28 assists in his rookie season with the Soo, the Newberry, Michigan native joined Steven Bellini (2018) and Barnabas Birkeland tied for most assists by a rookie franchise record in a regular season.
Starting the fall of 2021, Young will take a double major in Winona, Minnesota at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota with the 21 year old taking business marketing and business entrepreneurship programs.
