A member of the Soo Greyhounds 2020 draft class (4th Round), prospect Rutger McCgroarty was selected in the first Round (14 overall) of July 7th NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets.
A native of Washington Township, Michigan, McGroarty has played the past two seasons as part of the US National Development Program.
In 2021-22 with the U18 team, Rutger tallied 35 goals and 34 assists (69 points) in 54 games played. He also appeared in 25 games with the USNTDP in USHL action where he had 15 goals and 18 assists (33 points).
Captaining the US National Team at the U18 Championship he had 9 points (8G, 1A) in 6GP.
Arizona selects 2021 Import Pick of the Hounds
For the second time in as many days a Prospect of the Soo Greyhounds Program was selected at the 2022 NHL Draft.
With the 11th pick of the second round (43rd overall), the Arizona Coyotes selected forward Julian Lutz.
The Weingarten, Germany native was previously selected by the Hounds in the 2nd Round (89th Overall) of the 2021 CHL Import Draft.
The 18-year old forward played an injury shortened season in 2021-22 with EHC Munchen where he posted 1 goal and 2 assists (3 points) in 14 games.
The 6.02, 190-lber has represented his home country in back-to-back years with their U18 club on the International stage.
