Soo City United U-13 Girls Wins Big in the Nickel City

The Soo City Under 13 girl’s soccer team extended their winning streak to five games with a convincing 5-2 victory over the Under-14 Sudbury Impact team on August 28th.

The younger Sault Ste. Marie team utilized multiple set pieces in the second half to complete the season sweep versus the hard-working Sudbury team.

The first goal of the game started with a free kick from mid-field by Thea Iachetta that landed deep in the corner of the Impact zone. Sienna Magli took possession of the ball and crossed it into the box where Kaitlyn Johnson one timed the pass to the top corner of the net.

Early in the second half, Lila Jarrett added a second goal for the Soo team with a perfectly executed free kick well outside the 18 yard box. “You could not have placed that shot any better from 25 yards out. Lila drilled it top right corner. She has been working on her game, so nice to see Lila execute a kick like that when we needed it,” explained head coach, Michael Magli.

Minutes later, it was Sienna Magli stepping up to the penalty spot and burying a shot past the keeper to make it 3-0. The Sudbury Impact then countered with a penalty shot goal to make the game 3-1.

After that it was the Celina Pinelli show as she buried two consecutive goals off corner kicks. “Marissa (Levesque) and Bianca (Biagini) served up some beautiful balls off the set pieces and hey we finally buried them on the first touch. Credit Celina for demonstrating great concentration in front of the net and getting a foot on it. Overall, I am really proud of our girls, we are at our best when we are distributing the ball, working together and getting contributions from multiple players. Today we got goals from 4 different players. “ said coach Magli.

Saturday’s game concluded the friendly matches against the Sudbury Impact. The Soo U-13 team were a perfect 5-0 versus the Nickel City team.

Next up for the team is their first tournament in Ancaster, Ontario September 10-12th.
