Soo Black Sox 15U Take Two in Sudbury Over Shamrocks

(Sudbury, ON) — For the first time in over a year the Soo Black Sox Bantam team stepped out onto the field against out-of-town opposition over the July 24th and 25th weekend. Thanks to contributions up and down the lineup the Black Sox won both games of a double header this past Sunday against the Sudbury Shamrocks.

Game 1: Soo Black Sox (10) @ (5) Sudbruy Shamrocks 
The Black Sox bats came alive in the 2nd inning, scoring 7 runs, on route to a 10-5 victory. The Sox totaled 13 hits as a team. Keyton Mousseau and Kolton Tremblay led the Sox offensively. Mousseau scored 3 runs off 2 hits and was credited with 2 RBI’s. Kolton Tremblay went 2 for 2, with a single, a triple, and scored 2 runs. Carter Young and Lucas Carriere each had a pair of singles. While Logan Dearing, Nick Dearing, Wes White, Caleb Walker and Jace Hill-Pine all collected singles. Carriere was credited with the win on the mound for the Sox. Carriere started the game going 2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out 5. Logan Dearing and Caleb Walker combined for 3 innings in relief.

Game 2: Soo Black Sox (14) @ (0) Sudbruy Shamrocks
Jace Hill-Pine started on the mound in Game 2 and turned in an outstanding pitching performance, scattering 4 hits across 3 innings, and striking out 6. Hill-Pine struck out 5 batters in a row in the 2nd and 3rd innings during his outing. Nick Dearing came on in relief, giving up 2 hits and striking out 5 across 3 innings. Dearing managed to induce an infield pop-up with the bases loaded in the final inning to end the game in a shutout.
The Black Sox continued to swing the bats very well in the second game, scoring at least one run in each of the 5 innings to secure the victory. The Sox displayed more power at the plate this game, with Carter Young, Steven Day-Nolan, Nick Dearing, Lucas Carriere and Keyton Mousseau all recording doubles. Kolton Tremblay recorded 2 RBI’s while Wes White contributed with 2 runs scored.

“Overall the coaching staff was very impressed with how the players performed in their first game action in almost 2 years” said head coach Shaun Mousseau. “Our bats were on fire and the pitching was outstanding. To top it off, we made some amazing defensive plays as well. We couldn’t ask for a better start to our season and we are looking to continue this into August Madness weekend in Richmond Hill and Newmarket.”

Upcoming Schedule
The 15U Black Sox will travel to Newmarket over the July 30 to August 2 weekend to begin play in the first annual August Madness tournament. They will open the weekend against Richmond Hill on Friday July 30th, at 7:30 p.m. The Sox will be tested, as they will play six games in four days from Friday to Monday. The Sox will then play host to Sudbury to finish off their home and home season series on August 14th for two games at Sinclair Yards.
