Soo 18U Black Sox Split Doubleheader at Home Against Northern Michigan Patriots

In a midweek clash in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, the Soo 18U Black Sox took to the diamond to host the Northern Michigan Patriots in a doubleheader at IDA Park.

In Game one of the doubleheader both teams were strong on the bump on Wednesday, but Soo Black Sox 18U defeated Northern Michigan Patriots 2-1. Cole Masse started the game for Soo Black Sox 18U and recorded nine outs.

Soo Black Sox 18U opened the scoring in the third after Lucas Carriere grounded out, scoring one run.

Soo Black Sox 18U committed an error, which helped Northern Michigan Patriots tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.

An error gave Soo Black Sox 18U the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth.

Masse earned the win for Soo Black Sox 18U. The right-handed pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking none. Simrale took the loss for Northern Michigan Patriots. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking one. Matthew Forsey collected the save. Gavin Lamming threw two innings of scoreless ball for Soo Black Sox 18U in relief. The reliever surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.

Lamming and Connor Bruzas each collected one hit for Soo Black Sox 18U. Carriere led Soo Black Sox 18U with one run batted in.

Blaskowski, Ogden, and Jankorski each collected one hit for Northern Michigan Patriots. Ogden stole two bases.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Northern Michigan Patriots defeated Soo Black Sox 18U 7-1 on Wednesday at IDA Park thanks in part to five runs in the first inning.

Northern Michigan Patriots got on the board in the top of the first inning after Northern Michigan Patriots scored on a wild pitch, Jankorski doubled, Simrale walked, Boerman doubled, and Hansrl singled, each scoring one run.

A single by Simrale extended the Northern Michigan Patriots lead to 7-0 in the top of the third inning.

Blaskowski earned the win for Northern Michigan Patriots. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and one run (zero earned) over six innings, striking out five and walking three. Kolton Tremblay took the loss for Soo Black Sox 18U. They went two innings, surrendering five runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out four and walking one.

Michael Starzomski, Gavin Lamming, Matthew Forsey, and Ty Beaupre each collected one hit for Soo Black Sox 18U.

Ogden, Jankorski, and Boerman each collected two hits for Northern Michigan Patriots. Simrale led Northern Michigan Patriots with two runs batted in. They went 1-for-2 on the day.
