In the opening week of the 204 Inaugural Ontario Power 5 Football League (OP5FL), several Sault Steeler players emerged as the scoring leaders, showcasing their prowess on the field.

Leading the pack was Steeler Michael Reid, who commanded the offense with precision, scoring 12 points with his two touchdowns, earning him the top spot on the leaderboard for points and most yards rushed after week one.

Reid also bulldozed through defense as a linebacker with one sack, one tackle of a loss also finishing game one of the season for the Steelers with 6.5 tackles solidifying his position cementing his status as a game-changer in OP5FL. Quarterback Ryan Yost dazzled spectators with throwing passes for crucial scores with 25 attempts and 17 completions in the Sault’s opening season win with three touchdown passes.

As the first week concluded, these players set the tone for an exhilarating season ahead, leaving fans eagerly anticipating their next electrifying performances.

Michael Reid told Saultsports tat “obviously it’s pretty cool to see. I don’t have nearly as much experience playing offense so it’s weird seeing my name in those statistical categories. It’s a testament to the work my teammates and I have been putting in. We’ve really focused on our conditioning and staying in shape over the past 3 seasons, and it really pays off when you’re able to play both sides of the ball and special teams, and keep your energy and intensity across the course of a game. It also comes down to who’s around you- it makes it easier for me to perform when I can trust the guys around me to do their job so I can just go out there and do my thing. I know that every snap I have 11 other ballers around me that are tough and are going to fight. Luckily, the byproduct of that this past Saturday was a win.”

“It would be nice if I can maintain this level of production but winning games is always the number 1 priority. I’d sacrifice the personal accolades to win football games every single time I just so happened to benefit from a winning game plan on Saturday,” added Reid.
