Algoma Thunderbird Athletics has announced that Steve Acorn has been selected as our new Head Coach of Women’s Curling.
“I have a passion for helping young athletes reach their goals and dreams and I am looking forward to helping Algoma University athletes to reach their full potential and experience the best of what sports and the sport of curling has to offer,” says Acorn.
Steve has been coaching at the secondary level for 11 years at White Pines – a local high school in Sault Ste. Marie. At the start of his career, he had the chance to coach his son’s team – thus leading Acorn to many accomplishments over the years. Some of his accomplishments include:

Steve has a lot of experience and excellent coaching qualifications. We look forward to working with him in bringing our Women’s team to Provincial prominence.”
Steve is able to foster positive relationships and strong athletes. We are excited to see the future growth and development of the program with Steve’s guidance.
We also want to thank Josh Porco for his time and commitment to the program who stepped down recently from the Head Coach position he held since the 2015-16 season to spend more time with his two daughters.
