
With only just a month away until the teams arrive in eastern Canada for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, Hockey Canada announced on Monday, December 5th that Sault Ste Marie’s Jack Matier was one of 29 players who have earned an invitation to Canada’s National Junior Team selection camp, set for December 9-12 at the Avenir Centre.
Matier who suits for the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s will be vying for a position on the 2023 roster after tallying nine goals and 17 assists in 26 points in 25 games in his third season in the nation’s capital. The 19 year old blueliner is just three points shy of his career high of 29 heading into the 2023 023 IIHF World Junior Championship Team Canada selection camp.
The Sault Ste Marie defenceman was drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators with the 124th overall selection. Matier also brought home a gold medal representing Canada at the 2021 U18 World Junior Championships in Texas.
Matier told Saultsports that “It’s a huge honour, I think every kid playing hockey in Canada watches the World Juniors during Christmas, and having an opportunity to make this team is something that has been a goal of mine this year.”
