After a one-week pause because of poor air quality caused by the ongoing Northern Ontario forest fires, Thursday Night Thunder returns to the ⅓-mile D-shaped oval at Laird Raceway on Thursday, July 23, with an action-packed night of racing that will also feature the popular Spectator Drags just before the evening’s intermission.
The July 16 program was cancelled due to unsafe air quality conditions, meaning the championship standings remain unchanged from the last completed race night on July 9. With no points earned over the past week, every division heads into Week Six with plenty still to be decided as drivers continue their pursuit of a season championship.
Fans can expect another exciting evening of wheel-to-wheel competition across all five weekly divisions, with every race carrying added importance as the season reaches its midway point. Drivers know that every lap and every position on the track could prove critical in determining who will be crowned champion later this summer.
One of the biggest attractions of the evening will once again be the Spectator Drags, which have quickly become a fan favourite at Laird Raceway. Everyday drivers in street-legal vehicles will have the opportunity to compete in head-to-head, single-lap races down the front stretch for cash prizes and bragging rights. Participants receive $50 just for taking part, while the winner drives away with an additional $100, creating plenty of excitement both on and off the race track.
Heading into Week Six, Dustin Jackson continues to lead the Super Late Model division with 85 points, while Jordan Parniak sits second with 69 points. Chase Wilson rounds out the top three with 62 points as the battle for the championship continues to tighten.
The Modified division is shaping up to be the must-watch championship battle of the 2026 season. The J.P “Bay Street Roller” Delpaggio enters Week Six holding a five-point advantage with 112 points, but both Dustin Jackson and Mark Laakso are breathing down his neck, tied for second with 107 points apiece. With just five points separating the top three, one feature race could completely reshuffle the standings. How will Delpaggio withstand the pressure and remain atop the championship chase, or will Laakso and Jackson capitalize on every opportunity to knock him from the top when Thursday Night Thunder returns to Laird Raceway on July 23?
In the Factory Stock division, Xavier Carter has established himself as the driver to beat with 116 points. Brad Bibeau remains within striking distance in second with 109 points, while Daniel Bibeau sits third with 100 points as all three drivers continue to battle for valuable championship points.
The Factory Four class has featured one of the season’s biggest surprises, with rookie Will Siddall leading the standings with 101 points. Lucas Crosato is close behind with 97 points, while Taryn McCoy holds third place with 84 points heading into Thursday night’s racing.
Meanwhile, the Enduro division continues to be closely contested. Eric Sylvestre leads the standings with 17 points, rookie Lucas Fabbricino is only one point back with 16, and Dayne Lorenzo sits third with 12 points, leaving plenty of opportunity for movement in the championship standings over the coming weeks.
Fans planning to attend Thursday Night Thunder can expect a full evening of entertainment. Grandstands open at 5:00 p.m., qualifying begins at 6:00 p.m., and the green flag is scheduled to wave just after 7:00 p.m.
Admission is $25 for adults, while children and youth aged 17 and under are admitted free, along with seniors aged 75 and older. Pit admission is $35 for all ages.
