On Saturday, November 8th, at the Thessalon Arena, the St. Mary’s Knights put on a dominant offensive display, skating to a 9–2 victory over the CASS Huskies in Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League action. The night belonged to Nathan Watts, who recorded an incredible four-goal performance to power the Knights to the win.
In the opening period, the Knights capitalized early on special teams. Watts opened the scoring at 9:10 on the power play, followed by Tucker Bennett’s first of the season at 4:33 with assists from Connor Bishop and Russell McNally. The Huskies responded late in the frame when Austin Finlayson netted his first goal of the year, assisted by Jack McGonegal, to cut the deficit to 2–1.
The second period saw St. Mary’s take full control. Connor Bishop made it 3–1 at 14:39, assisted by Watts and Cole Bailey, before Ethan Agawa added an unassisted tally at 11:27. Watts struck again at 8:02, unassisted, to extend the Knights’ lead to 5–1. Logan McAulay gave the Huskies a late boost with his first of the season, assisted by Aydan Reed and Gabe Stewart, to make it 5–2 heading into the final frame.
The Knights didn’t slow down in the third. Watts completed his scoring showcase with three more goals — at 14:21, 5:45, and 5:00 — bringing his total to five on the night, while Marcus Spadafora added a power-play goal at 6:26. Bishop contributed his second of the game and finished with a strong multi-point effort alongside Spadafora, who tallied multiple assists.
In goal, Aaron Juma earned the win for St. Mary’s, while Jack Unetic tended the net for CASS.
The Huskies will look to regroup when they face the Korah Colts on Sunday, November 9th at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Knights taking on the White Pines Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Both games will be played at the John Rhodes Community Centre and streamed live on Saultsports TV.
