With only 106 days until the tipoff for the 2021 – 2022 OUA men’s basketball season, 5’9″ Montreal, Quebec native Peter De La Paz joins the Algoma Men’s Thunderbird basketball program.
The Montreal native comes to Sault Ste Marie, Ontario to study Finance and Economics at Algoma University for the fall of 2021.
Thunderbird coach Etienne Jacquet told Saultsports that “Peter, is an experienced point guard that played in Montreal, Quebec for the Dawson College program. Peter will add court vision as well as basketball IQ to our team. As a point guard he also has the ability to help us space the floor with his three-point shooting. I believe Peter will fit well with our core group and looks to be a very good student as well as basketball player. We’re excited to have Peter join the Algoma Thunderbirds basketball program.”
De La Paz told Saultsports that “first and foremost academically, I’ve heard nothing but great things about Algoma University. I was glad to see that the school not only offered the program i has started here at Concordia University (economics), but offered a Finance & Economic undergrad. Which is a two for one for me as my ultimate goal is to finish a masters in the finance/business field.”
“As for basketball, I will definitely bring my leadership and experience not only on the court but off the court as well. Going from the RSEQ (Dawson college) to the ACAA (Dalhousie AC), i had take on many different roles and i am ready to share and help bring that championship mentally with the Thunderbirds! Coach Etienne mentionned to me that he is expecting for me to bring my shooting abilities as well as my basketball IQ. I have a great feel for the game and I am ready to help use that for the upcoming season. Also, I have heard only great feedback from coach Etienne and i am excited to expand my basketball knowledge and get better with his help. He is a great coach and I’m coming with an open mindset to do my best to help our team this year. Nothing but excitement from me,” said De La Paz.
