In their second-to-last game of the 2025-2026 Great North U18 Hockey League season, the Soo U16 Greyhounds traveled north to face the Timmins Majors on Sunday, February 28th at the McIntyre Arena. The Greyhounds entered the matchup looking to rebound from a narrow 5-4 loss in New Liskeard to the Cubs the night before, but Timmins capitalized on key opportunities to secure a 3-1 victory on home ice.
After a tightly contested opening frame, the Majors broke through late in the period. At 17:59, Caleb Lavoie scored his eighth goal of the season, finishing a play set up by Zachary Robinson and Hayden Roy to give Timmins a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
The Majors extended their advantage late in the middle frame while down a man. At 18:43, Hayden Roy recorded his 14th goal of the season shorthanded, converting a feed from Zachary Robinson to make it 2-0.
The Greyhounds responded just over a minute later. At 19:58, Nicholas Patience scored his second of the season, with assists credited to Gage Guzzo and Ethan Cress, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and giving the Soo momentum heading into the third.
The Greyhounds pressed for the equalizer in the final frame, but Timmins sealed the outcome in the closing seconds.
At 19:17, Jean-Paul Lariviere scored his first goal of the season into the empty net, assisted by Jacob Deschamps and Gerald Southwind, securing the 3-1 final.
Road trip wrap-up, the loss concluded a difficult northern swing for the Greyhounds. The Soo had a third game scheduled in Timmins to close out their 2025-2026 campaign but were forced to forfeit the final contest due to having only nine available skaters.
Despite the challenges, the young Greyhounds continued to compete hard down the stretch as they wrapped up their season schedule.
