With only one point separating the top two teams in the west division, the second place (25-14-4-1) Soo Greyhounds hit the ice at the Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, February 16th with 55 points when they host the first place (27-14-0-2) Flint Firebirds in west division midweek clash.
With unassisted goal by Firebird Brennan Othmann behind Greyhound netminder Tucker Tynan 5:23 into the second period gives Flint a 1 – 0 lead. With 4:52 remaining the midweek clash at the Memorial Gardens, Rory Kerins fires hihs 27th of the season to tie the game 1 – 1 for the Soo. Cole MacKay and Tyler Savard drew the assists on Kerins’ tying goal. After an unsuccessful overtime with no scoring from either the Firebirds and Greyhounds, Soo veteran forwards Rory Kerins and Cole MacKay find the back of Firebird goaltender Luke Cavallin’s net in the shootout to give the Soo 2 – 1 win. Flint goaltender stopped 43 of 44 shots in the loss while Greyhound netminder Tucker Tynan turned away 35 of 36 shots in shootout win. With the shootout win, the Greyhounds move into a first place tie with Firebirds with Flint having one game in hand.
The Greyhounds hit the road for a two game road trip with stops in London on Friday, February 18th meeting against the Knights at 7:00 p.m before heading north to take on the Attack in Owen Sound for a 7:30 p.m puck drop on Saturday, February 19th.
