Fall-o-Rick Fall on his run from Victoria, BC near his hometown, Duncan, British Columbia to his current home, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Running has always been a life’s passion. The 61 year old have participated in many marathons, including the Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, and Berlin Marathons and the New York City Marathon. The Sault Ste Marie resident is now ready to run the Marathon of his Life to help raise funds for two very important causes, Make-A-Wish Canada and Childhood Cancer Canada starting at Mile 0 in Victoria, British Columbia on April 12th, 2021.
As a teacher, Rick has crossed paths with many children with critical illnesses who have wishes and dreams to fulfill. For the past number of years, his wife Colette and Rick have played an instrumental role in our City’s Annual Terry Fox Run, and have witnessed the overwhelming generosity of caring people who share a common goal…finding a cure for cancer. By combining his love of running with these two great causes he plans to fulfill a dream of his own, running 100 marathons (4200 km) and raising funds to help change children’s lives.
Make-A-Wish Canada grants magical wishes to children with critical illness from coast-to-coast.
Childhood Cancer Canada is dedicated to saving, enhancing and extending the lives of kids with cancer.
We all know someone who has been touched by cancer or knows a child with a critical illness. Rick lost my mother to lung cancer in October of 2013 and a niece who suffered for many years with an illness.
Rick has been inspired by heroes like Terry Fox, Rick Hanson and others who have run across Canada for their own causes, and now he is ready to embark on my own journey for such great causes.
As the 61 year old runs from Victoria, near my home town of Duncan, British Columbia to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where his home is now, he will be collecting charitable donations for Make-A-Wish Canada and Childhood Cancer Canada.
With Colette driving a support vehicle, the Sault Ste Marie resident will primarily be running or paralleling the Trans Canada Highway. Depending on COVID-19 restrictions, stops along the way for speaking engagements or events to help support the two causes may need to be limited. His ultimate targeted audience will be the entire population of Canada and going global through social media with a goal of raising $300,000. As of noon on Sunday, April 25th, Fall-o-Rick has raised $25,150.00.
