Over the Thursday, October 6 to Monday, October 10 weekend, the Soo U18 Greyhounds took to the road for their first tournament action in Toronto where they joined 22 other U18 AAA teams from across the province of Ontario at the 2022 Toronto U18 Titans Prospect Tournament.
The Greyhounds finished the round robin with a 2 – 2 record before winning in the quarter – finals with a 2 – 1 shootout win over the Markham Waxers before dropping the semi – final in a 2 – 1 loss against the Elgin Middlesex Canucks on Monday, October 10.
The U18 Greyhounds now return to Sault Ste Marie to host the New Liskeard Cubs on October 29 and October 30 at the John Rhodes Centre with 6:30 p.m (Saturday) and 11:00 a.m (Sunday) puck drops.
Coach Jamie Henderson told Saultpsorts that “this was as hard and gutsy as I’ve seen a group of players play in a long time. We played more than half the tournament down five players and to have so many 07’s in the lineup playing teams of 06’s and 05’s these boys deserve so much credit for really buying in to the game plan each game.”
“To be among the final four playing today is an amazing accomplishment for this young group at such a prestigious tournament with many of the top u18 teams from the province. We couldn’t be more proud of the effort and we definitely want to continue to build off this based on the feeling in the room they certainly were disappointed and upset they wanted more,” added Henderson.
Henderson also said that “we had tremendous support all weekend from back home. We could feel it and it was very appreciated.”
