The Soo Greyhounds continued their strong playoff push on Tuesday, March 31st at the Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, defeating the London Knights 3-2 in double overtime to take a commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven first round series.

Coming off a 3-2 overtime win in London on March 29th, the Greyhounds returned home looking to build momentum—and did so in dramatic fashion in front of their home crowd.

The Knights struck first in the opening period on the powerplay. At 13:24, Jaxon Cover scored his second goal of the postseason, finishing a play set up by Henry Brzustewicz and Ryan Brown to give London a 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds responded late in the period, as Callum Croskery found the back of the net at 19:01 for his first of the playoffs, with Quinn McKenzie picking up the assist to even the score at 1-1 heading into the intermission.

In the second period, London regained the lead early. At 5:22, Evan Van Gorp converted on a penalty shot for his first of the postseason, putting the Knights ahead 2-1. The Greyhounds answered once again, this time at 16:01, when Jordan Charron scored his first playoff goal, finishing a play from Callum Croskery to tie the game 2-2.

The third period saw both teams tighten defensively, with neither side able to break through. Strong goaltending and structured play sent the game into overtime.

The first overtime solved nothing, as both teams traded chances but couldn’t find the decisive goal.

In the second overtime, the Greyhounds finally broke through. At 2:13, Carson Andrew scored his first goal of the postseason, finishing a play from Travis Hayes and Quinn McKenzie to give Soo the 3-2 victory and a stranglehold on the series.

With the win, the Greyhounds now hold a 3-0 series lead and sit just one victory away from advancing to the next round. Game Four is set for Wednesday, April 1st in Sault Ste. Marie, with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m as the Greyhounds look to complete the sweep on home ice.
