On Wednesday, February 25th, the fourth-place Western Conference (34-17-1-5) Soo Greyhounds traveled north for their fifth meeting of the 2025–2026 OHL season against the eighth-place Eastern Conference (23-32-2) Sudbury Wolves. The Greyhounds entered the midweek contest looking to rebound from a 1–0 loss to the Guelph Storm on February 21st in Sault Ste. Marie, while the Wolves were coming off a 4–2 setback in London against the Knights on February 22nd.
Soo had won the previous matchup between the two clubs, earning a 4–2 victory on February 11th, and carried a strong 4–1 record against Sudbury in the season series heading into Wednesday night.
Adding local intrigue, two Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario products were in the Wolves lineup. Luca Blonda suited up for his 53rd regular season game, entering play with two goals and 22 assists, while Hudson Chitaroni has recorded four goals and two assists in fourteen games with the Wolves.
The Greyhounds opened the scoring midway through the first period. At 10:15, Justin Cloutier netted his fifth of the season on the power play, finishing a setup from Jeremy Martin and Lukas Fischer to give Soo a 1–0 lead. The Hounds extended their advantage at 13:43 when Carson Andrew scored his sixth of the year, converting a feed from Travis Hayes to make it 2–0 after twenty minutes.
Sudbury responded early in the second. Just 58 seconds into the frame, Jan Chovan scored his 22nd of the season on the power play, assisted by Daniel Berehowsky and Artem Gonchar, cutting the lead to 2–1. The Wolves pulled even at 17:58 when Genc Ula notched his sixth of the campaign, finishing a play set up by Blake Clayton to send the game into the third period tied 2–2.
The Greyhounds regained control quickly in the final frame. At 1:08, Carson Andrew struck again for his second goal of the night and seventh of the season, capitalizing on assists from Jordan Charron and Callum Croskery to restore a 3–2 Soo lead.
Momentum continued to swing in the Greyhounds’ favor at 6:24 when Travis Hayes scored his 15th of the season shorthanded, finishing unassisted to give the visitors a two-goal cushion. Soo added insurance at 9:59 as Colin Fitzgerald buried his 15th of the year, with Lukas Fischer and Brady Smith picking up the assists to extend the lead to 5–2.
In goal, Carter George turned aside 24 of 26 shots to earn the victory for the Greyhounds, while Bjorn Bronas made 22 saves on 27 shots in the loss for Sudbury.
With the win, the Greyhounds head back to Sault Ste. Marie and will host the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday, February 27th, with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
