The Soo Greyhounds saw their season come to an end on Sunday, April 19th, falling 4–0 to the Ted Reeve Thunder in the semifinal of the 2026 OHF U18AA Championships in Kitchener.
Looking to avenge a 7–5 round-robin loss to the Thunder and earn a spot in the gold medal game, the Greyhounds battled hard but were unable to generate offense against a strong Ted Reeve lineup.
The Thunder opened the scoring early in the first period. At 2:24, Ryder Chang netted his first of the championships unassisted, giving Ted Reeve a 1–0 lead heading into the intermission.
In the second period, the Thunder extended their advantage at 2:50. Nikhil Soreng scored his first of the tournament, with Chang picking up the assist, making it 2–0.
Ted Reeve added to their lead in the third period. At 11:26, Owen Simpson recorded his first of the championships, assisted by Jared Seto and Riley Fedorchuk. Just minutes later at 3:59, Trevor Cotton sealed the outcome with his first of the tournament, with helpers from Noah Miller and Landon Kim, pushing the lead to 4–0.
Despite the loss, the Greyhounds competed hard throughout the contest but were unable to solve the Thunder defensively, resulting in the shutout with Greyhounds goaltender Trent Borelli getting the start, while Victor Duncan-Surkos turned aside every shot he faced to record the shutout in the victory.
With the defeat, the Greyhounds’ 2025–2026 season comes to a close, while the Thunder advance to the U18AA OHF Championship gold medal game.
