The Soo Greyhounds closed out their round-robin schedule at the 2026 OHF U13AA Championships with a narrow 2–1 loss to the Leaside Flames on Saturday, April 18th in Copper Cliff, ending their hopes of advancing to the semi-finals.
In a tightly contested matchup, the Flames struck first midway through the opening period on the power play. At 7:30, Jacob Bevacqua scored his first goal of the championships, converting a setup from Jake Shea and Ellis to give Leaside a 1–0 lead.
The second period saw both teams battle hard but remain scoreless, with strong defensive play and steady goaltending at both ends keeping the game within a single goal.
The Greyhounds found their breakthrough in the third period. At 9:18, Cole Van Hoek netted his second goal of the championships, finishing a play created by Ryan Moore and Jakob Maninos to even the score at 1–1.
As the game pushed toward the final minute, the Greyhounds pressed for a go-ahead goal, but the Flames capitalized on the opportunity. With 38 seconds remaining, Alex Polizos scored into the empty net unassisted to restore the Leaside lead and secure the 2–1 victory.
In goal, Noah Bouchard delivered a solid performance for the Greyhounds, while George Koukodimos earned the win for the Flames.
With the loss, the Greyhounds are eliminated from semi-final contention at the 2026 OHF U13AA Championships, bringing their tournament run—and their 2026 season—to a close.
