Garson’s Three Points Helps Lift Colts Past Steelhawks in High School Action

After opening the 2022 – 2023 Sault Ste Marie High School hockey season with a 3 – 2 loss to the Superior Heights Steelhawks, the (0-1) Korah Colts took to the ice on Monday, November 7th to meet the (1-0) Steelhawks at the John Rhodes Centre. The Steelhawks were coming off a 9 – 1 November 4th loss to the St Mary’s Knights.

At 11:47 of the second period all alone to the right of Korah netminder Troy Rosetto, Connor Ouimette fires a wrist shot to top right corner of the Colts net to give Steelhawks a 1 – 0 lead. Brady DesChene and Ray Rumiel added the helpers on Ouimette’s first goal of the season. From the bottom of the left faceoff circle, Owen Avery finds the back of Superior Heights goaltender Tristan Tranberg’s net for his first of the season to pull the Colts even 1 – 1 at the 9:11 mark of the second. Dylan Garson added the lone assist on Avery’s tying goal. Adding a contributor on Mason Battochio third goal of the season, Dylan Garson fires a pass to Battochio in front of Tranberg’s net at 7:20 of the second to give Korah a 2 – 1 lead. Scoring his first of the season and registering his third of the game, Dylan Garson picks up his own rebound the slide Korah’s third underneath Tranberg to bring thr lead to 3 – 1 for the Colts. Brady Bayles and Luca Venneri notched the helpers on Garson’s goal.

With Superior Heights on a powerplay, Ray Rumiel sinks his third of the season with a snapshot from the top of the right faceoff circle underneath Rosetto’s catcher to pull the Steelhawks within one at 10:14 of the third with Owen Case and Clark Parker drawing the assists on Rumiel’s powerplay marker. To the left of the Steelhawk net, Luca Venneri registers his first goal of the season with picking up a loose puck to slide the Colts fourth past Tranberg to give Korah a 4 – 2 lead at 7:19. Kaylob Thibodeau scores his second of the season to give the Colts a 5 – 2 win with an unassisted Korah goal from just inside the blueline with 6:26 remaining the third. Troy Rosetto earns his first win of the 2022 – 2023 high school season for the Colts.

Steelhawk coach Chris Hales told Saultsports that “although it doesn’t show on the scoreboard, we played our best game so far. We challenged the players to get better each period and to keep pushing, which they did. We preach process over results and this is a game where although it is a loss we are leaving it a better team than when we came.”

Next up for the Steelhawks will be on Wednesday, November 9th at the John Rhodes Centre when Superior Heights meet the St Mary’s Knights at 3:30 p.m while the Colts take on the Knights on Monday, November 14th with a 3:30 p.m puck drop at the John Rhodes Centre.
